Chances are if you’re reading BOOM BLOG, you’re relatively motivated in life and you want more out of it than the average person. With all this ‘go-getting’: crazy jobs, multiple jobs, college, advanced degrees, owning your own business, or any combination of the above…do you ever take time for yourself? Add a few of these variables in there – children, lover/spouse, family and friends. Let’s face it, as much as we love them, they still provide us with even more stress.
It starts off innocent – a little headache here, a little back ache there. You ignore the symptoms. Your mind and body need a break but you keep trekking forward. You gain or lose a few pounds (depending on your reaction type), your hairline escapes you, bags under your eyes get a little puffier, a little darker.
When does it all end? When you’re a 900 lb, swollen eyed, bald headed, pill popping fool? The truth is, it never ends. Once you’ve established your role as a (legal) grinder/hustler, chances are you will continue to be one for the rest of your able life. At your best, you will end up a well paid grinder. You know the type, one of those well off people who own their industry and are still always plotting on improving or starting something new. So the answer does not come with stopping your hustle. The answer lies in altering your lifestyle a bit to treat yourself – your mind AND body, to what it needs. Here are a few tips from BOOM BLOG:
-Get yourself a pet. You may think to yourself, pets are just more work. Well… they are…but they are always there when you need them, you can talk to them (like many crazy pet talkers do) and they love you because you feed them. The State University of New York at Buffalo ran a research study and discovered that a pet provides more stress relief than another human. Well, it makes sense. They don’t talk slick back.
-Start your morning with a workout or some form of rigorous activity *cheesy wink*. Trust me, I’m not a morning person, but I find this one to be true. When you start your day releasing energy, you leave yourself open to take on more. So when you wake up, punch, run, or lift. With all this extra working out, you’ll not only find yourself less stressed, but sexier as well, which can’t hurt.
-Sit in an aesthetically pleasing place for at least 2 hours a week. Beauty in the Community (not to be confused with Booty in the Community) often goes underrated. The fact is, when we place ourselves in beautiful, tranquil settings, our bodies naturally unwind. You ever come back from a cruise and realized you lost 5 lbs even though you were killing that open bar? It’s not a coincidence. Sit in a park, on a beach or create a sacred place in your home.
Runners up: aromatherapy and a full body massage at a local spa.
The body’s stress level is based on the transference of energy. If you spend your days taking in information, taking on work, taking in direction, yet you don’t ever release anything, you’re living your life unbalanced. Think tipping scale. Force yourself the opportunity to release energy constructively, creatively and positively, so that when people like children, lover/spouses, family and friends come around you’re not laying the smack down for no reason.
We all fall short, but let’s do better. Be balanced and ready to take on the world again the next day.
